Do you hope President Obama succeeds in restoring slightly higher taxes on the very rich?

In his State of the Union address this year, and on other occasions, Obama has indicated he's willing to make some deep cuts in federal social spending on the poor, the middle class and the very young -- but at the same time, he's insisted that meaningful deficit reduction is impossible without some increases in the income tax rates for the richest 2.5% of Americans.

Do you agree with Obama on this point, or disagree? And why do you feel as you do?Do you hope President Obama succeeds in restoring slightly higher taxes on the very rich?Yes. I agree with Reagan's ex-Budget Director David Stockman that the Bush tax cuts did not pay for themselves.

I also agree with the CBO that extending the tax cuts on the wealthiest Americans is a very poor investment, bring in forty cents in revenue per dollar of tax cut.

"We don't have a tax problem. We have a spending problem". We have both.

(Great answer, "Ohhhbother").Do you hope President Obama succeeds in restoring slightly higher taxes on the very rich?
100% first you have to stop the tax cutting.

8 years of it under Bush hasn't worked.

Restore income to the government at the federal level and save major entitlement programs like medicare and social security or expect major tax increases at the state and local level as the Federal government shifts the cost to the states.

Suppose the Fed shifted the cost of the recovery of theTornado ravaged states to the state governments ? Widespread state bankruptcy, followed by mass migration out of the damaged area into the unaffected areas by what amounts to American refugees. Ridiculous.Do you hope President Obama succeeds in restoring slightly higher taxes on the very rich?I disagree most vociferously with 'The One", and this is why...how many jobs have you personally ever held where your employer was poor? Obama is following the tired old liberal line of trying to demagogue his an issue for his own popularity. The rich are the ones who hire workers, they pay more in taxes, why would any sane person want to punish that?
Of course. It amazes me that the Republicans can simultaneously say they want debt reduction and want to extend tax cuts to the wealthy. Of course, it makes complete sense if one accepts the premise that things like medical care for the elderly and poor are less important than making the richest people even richer, but I hope most people don't accept that ideaDo you hope President Obama succeeds in restoring slightly higher taxes on the very rich?I would be fine with returning to the Clinton tax rates, which would also increase my tax rates - until the deficit is gone.
Combined with spending cuts I see no reason to keep taxes lower than they have been in two decades.

I would prefer not to rob the elderly, the schools, or the infrastructure.Do you hope President Obama succeeds in restoring slightly higher taxes on the very rich?
Yes.

The culmination of giving the super rich tax cuts are killing this country.

Our schools are hurting, the police are being laid off, same with our firemen.

Raising the taxes a few % points would help tremendously.

But he's gonna have a huge fight on his hands. The republican congress works for the super rich and not all the people.

I think we should tax the rich more for sure, but not significantly. Only modest for now, perhaps slowly increasing it over the next few years.
Yes. I'm good with having tax increases on the rich to help reduce the deficit. I wish Obama wouldn't have caved on this the first time.
I suggest the top rate for those making 500,000 or over to be around 40%

currently at 35%

and another tax cut for those making under 20K a year.
Yes. That will drive his unemployment numbers up even higher and ensure his loss of the impending 2012 election.
The Bush tax cuts for the rich should be repealed.
YYYYYEEEESSSS!!!!!
Yes. Its one of the only ways to recoup money that the rich are not spending. The higher the amount of wealth, the larger the Propensity to save. Basically, the rich spend proportionally less of their money, the poor spend proportionally more. By increasing the taxes on the rich, the money is put back into circulation through government programs which benefit everyone, such as roads, schools, military, infrastructure.
all I know is this: There is NO SUCH THING as a "tax on the rich"...

once a precedent is established, all taxes are applied to ALL taxpayers with the largest burden being paid by the Middle Class.

politicians know this, which is why they must play on the class-envy and petty emotionalism of the weak-minded to get their fat tax increases passed...
We don't have a tax problem. We have a spending problem. Cut spending while lowering taxes should be the target.
%26gt;slightly higher taxes

+0.01%

which is the same amount of what i'm paying

i really don't care, i just want him out.
We should eliminate the income tax. Ron Paul 2012.
