Is Obama throwing the hero soldiers who tried to rescue the british woman, under the bus?

These guys risked their life's and are real hero's but once again we see Obama back stabbing our military. Do you think he is willing to suck up to Europe at the expense of these wonderful men?Is Obama throwing the hero soldiers who tried to rescue the british woman, under the bus? With all due respect to the US military and these particular soldiers, heros save people, not kill them. I'm sure these American soldiers were brave and didn't intend to kill the hostage, but nevertheless if you fail to save someone, and in fact kill them by mistake, you haven't rescued anyone therefore are not a hero. Of course she may have been killed by a suicide vest after all, it's unclear right now. But i can't see why they threw a frag grenade during a hostage rescue mission. I wonder why they were even carrying frag grenades for such a mission in the first place. Who would throw a frag grenade at a bunch of militants with a hostage? Stun grenades i can understand but frags? Not exactly professional to throw a frag at a hostage.

Those American soldiers shouldn't have even been conducting that mission, our own special forces should have been sent in to rescue our own citizen. No doubt Cameron thought he could save a few pennies by getting Americans to do our own work for us, it's his fault not America's. In any case, those soldiers screwed up and a woman died possibly as a result of their mistake. The procedure under those circumstances is to find out what went wrong and discipline those responsible accordingly. I doubt those soldiers would be imprisoned though, let alone extradited. They didn't actually mean to kill her after all. The worst they can expect is to be discharged from the military.

I have seen no evidence of Obama sucking up to Europe or backstabbing the US military and the soldiers involved in that mission. He's just said he'll work with us to find out what happened and what went wrong. Don't forget a British woman died in this operation, you have to understand the UK wants to know why one of our people was killed and what caused her death.

@Steffan: So what if the Americans insisted? Any Prime Minister who doubts our special forces are the best in the world doesn't deserve to be PM. And any PM who doesn't use the best troops available to rescue one of our citizens isn't doing his job. US special forces are good and everything but why should they have been put in a position of responsibility for another nation's citizen when we have troops more than capable of doing the job? Now the woman is dead and a US soldier is going to get disciplinary action, perhaps this could have all been avoided if we just used our own men. Don't get other nations to sort out your problems, you end up with too much BS when something goes wrong. Is Obama throwing the hero soldiers who tried to rescue the british woman, under the bus?
How in the world is the President "back stabbing" the military? How is he sucking up to anyone over this? Under whose bus is he throwing US Servicemembers?

The President is merely expressing his feelings of a tragedy to a close ally. He is also doing what a Commander is supposed to do - ensure that when things go wrong, an investigation is held that tries to show what went right and what went wrong. If negligent mistakes were made, then someone pays.

While I may not know you, you sound like someone who never put a uniform on, and never carried a rifle when it counted.

And for christ's sakes, please stop throwing the term "hero" around so casually. The guys who win the MoH are heroes. The rest of us are doing our jobs!Is Obama throwing the hero soldiers who tried to rescue the british woman, under the bus?The guys are brave, noone will argue with that, but i think when youre in the special forces of any country's army you are not expected to make mistakes, a mistake can cost a life in this sort of operation...and one has. At this level i dont think it is acceptable to simply say, they failed, but you can't fault them....theyre brave guys. I also think that you're looking at this the wrong way, the reputation of the US special forces in Britain has been dealt a huge blow, all day i've been listening to radio talk show hosts warning of the dangers of not insisting on the use of the SAS or SBS in these situations when British citizens are involved, if the US military is to retain any sort of credibility in Europe they need to look as if they are looking into what went wrong, and that is what Obama is ensuring....he is saving your military's faultering reputation

@Inquisitive Brit: The Americans insisted on carrying out the mission as they had good knowledge of the surrounding area....its hardly Cameron's fault

@Alexander M: You don't clear rooms in a hostage taking situation with frags, you also don't rock up in choppers. "maybe if Britain was competent enough to rescue its own civilians"....erm ever heard of the SAS and SBS, and we sat on our thumbs? The American commanders in the area insisted on carrying out the mission for reasons i stated above. But to be honest i agree, i don't think aid workers really have any business endangering the lives of our troops in Afghanistan...its work that can be done at a later date if the country ever becomes a little safer.
It appears that the US soldiers threw a grenade into the location she was being held, killing her. Soldiers are brave but they make mistakes.

Obama stated:

"During a telephone call to No. 10 Downing Street Monday night, the president promised Cameron that he "would get to the bottom of what happened," according to a White House press release. The statement added that both leaders "agreed that the rescue operation was necessary given the grave danger to [aid worker Linda Norgrove's] life, and that U.S. forces had shown great courage.""

Saying the operation was necessary and that the US Forces showed great courage does not really seem to be throwing them under the bus. Try again.

http://www.aolnews.com/world/article/oba鈥?/a>Is Obama throwing the hero soldiers who tried to rescue the british woman, under the bus?any 'special forces' soldier stupid enough to throw a grenade during a hostage rescue mission deserves to be kicked out of the military, it is a basic and inexcusable error on the part of the man involved, just because he wears an American uniform doesn't get him a free ride out of town,

once again the rest of the world is laughing at the perceived incompetence of the US military, and if America seriously wants it military to be respected as professional and well trained (something which i am sad to say it not how large chunks of the rest of the world view it) then they will have a full and open enquiry into this **** up and make changes to try and regain some of the respect it has lost.Is Obama throwing the hero soldiers who tried to rescue the british woman, under the bus?
paul- wtf are you talking about? yiou sound like you know nothing about the miltary but are ready to condemn it at any possible second.

first off, when it coems to rescue missions, the rescuers life means more than the rescuees. plain and simple, and thats civilian world too. firefighters wont go into a building about to flash over to rescue a person, EMTs wont go treat someone if shots are being fired, SWAT wont go into a room with hostage takers unless they can ensure that they will have success with minimal if any casualties.

secondly, there havent been enough details released for anyone to really rag on anything. if intel showed that she was in a different room than she was, then hows that the operators faults? even if she wasnt and that was the ONLY way to clear the room without the team getting slaughtered, then they were still in the right. flashbangs are nice, but they dont always work as well as they do in the video games.

lastly, maybe if britain was competant enough to rescue its own civilians, we wouldnt have had to go try to rescue them for them (and atleast WE did something, opposed to you brits that just sat on your thumbs)

btw it was SEALs, not SF.

and as for who's fault it is that hse died: its her own. how ******* stupid do you have to be to go do aid work in an anti-western country thats currently the main ground of insurgent warfare? its like seeing that theres a bank robery going on and walking in with cookies for the hostages....
Anybody who believes this is an idiot. Obama has a hair a day going gray to try and fight for the military and this is how he's repaid. Idiots. Is Obama throwing the hero soldiers who tried to rescue the british woman, under the bus?
just another mistake to make the us military look even worse....great. they really need better training and you know it.
not sniping at ALL but have you got a link, have not seen a thing about this at all...
if that was the SAS the women would be alive
