Now, this question is NOT for those who, during the election campaign, were either opposed or were in favor of an Obama presidency, knowing that Keynesian economics, which is a staple of modern day liberalism, would likely be his answer to the economic crisis.
This question is for independents and others who voted for Obama, but are now souring on him because of the budget deficit.
Did you not know that Obama and his ilk are Keynesians, and were going to elevate spending and widen the deficit? How could you not have known that?Is anyone actually surprised that the Obama Administration is overseeing such a large budget deficit?I suspect that if McCain was elected we would have an equally large budget deficit, the main difference being that it would have been the result of a stimulus that was 100% tax cuts and mostly aimed at corporations and wealthy individuals rather than a stimulus of unemployment benefits, middle-class tax cuts, aid to state governments, and infrastructure spending.
People forget that TARP was Bush's idea, not Obama's. And that Bush supported huge tax cuts that blew up the deficit when the economy went into recession at the beginning of his administration.
Sorry for answering, I'm not an independent but I think it's relevant to point out the realities of how Washington operates. Unless someone like Ron Paul was elected who believes in eliminating all government entitlement programs we would have seen big tax cuts from the Republicans with no corresponding spending cuts.Is anyone actually surprised that the Obama Administration is overseeing such a large budget deficit?
Despite what the Obama apologists say, most Americans are surprised at this huge deficit. After reading the posts above, I am confused as to the sanity or intelligence level of some of their authors. Deficit adds to gross debt, and to say that deficit doesn't matter implies that we will simply jump the debt and screw all of those investors or lenders that put money into a country that could not pay it. This is not a good situation for any economy. Good bye credit. Good bye dollar.
There is no way the deficit would be this high under Mccain because he did not intend to pass any expensive bills that America could not pay for, let alone a health reform program that has questionable financial sustainability under our current taxes. The problem with a 1 trillion dollar bill is that you have to pay for it. I suppose most Americans forgot about that bit.Is anyone actually surprised that the Obama Administration is overseeing such a large budget deficit?no not really considering there was a recession when he got into office... Keynesian economics is working, it has got the us out of the mess the banks started... but Obama has to learn that spend spend spend will send us right back... look at Europe the same thing is happening there, but they are smart enough to know when to stop and start cutting back... Obama hasn't gotten the message yet... I sense greek style spending cuts and HUGE tax rises...
BTW Budget deficit is not the same as the public debtIs anyone actually surprised that the Obama Administration is overseeing such a large budget deficit?
The budget deficit is as meaningless now as it was during the previous administration. Is anyone actually surprised that the Obama Administration is overseeing such a large budget deficit? No, but obama just loves to spend the money of the unborn. Is anyone actually surprised that the Obama Administration is overseeing such a large budget deficit?
Sorry, not souring on him. I think he is cleaning up the mess. It isn't like things were great when he took office.
