Why did Obama place a moratorium on oil drilling off the coast?

In sixty years this is the first accident. After the Exxon Valdez we didn't put a moratorium on oil being transported by tankers. We recognized that for the accident it was and moved on. Why the change? Is Obama really concerned about the spill or is he just trying to push the boot a little tighter across our collective necks? Why did Obama place a moratorium on oil drilling off the coast? To repair safety regulations that GWBush allowed oil companies to do themselves. Without govt oversight, the oil companies will cut safety to maximize profits. Why did Obama place a moratorium on oil drilling off the coast?
Because eleven people died. Because this latest accident is the result of an *almost* unbelievable level of negligence and arrogance on behalf of both the companies involved and the government agency tasked with overseeing it. Because the gulf coast may never be the same. The cost of this "accident" is too high to just say "oops" and cross our fingers. We need to know why it happened, how to prevent it from happening again, and how to fix it if it does happen BEFORE we allow drilling to continue. We have to at least pretend that people are worth more than profits, those who died deserve that much. Why did Obama place a moratorium on oil drilling off the coast? Why oh why don't the Cons put their hate for Obama on the back burner for a moment and understand that he made a good common sense conservative decision regarding deep water drilling

What happened with the Exxon Valdez is irrelevant because it was a simple problem that had a simple solution.

What happened on the Deep Water Horizon is a very complicated problem that a solution has yet to be discovered and until one is, the conservative prudent decision is to stop drilling.
Last time I checked 1979 is not 60 years ago. And 1990 isn't either.

In the last *30* years there were 6 major oil spills ( excluding this one )

in the Gulf. 3 Tankers, 2 rigs and Katrina where we didn't know where the

oil was actually coming from. In between those we had dozens of "minor"

spills. The 1979 Ixtoc I disaster is the biggest oil spill in US history ( so far ).

About 10x the amount of the Exxon Valdez "accident".Why did Obama place a moratorium on oil drilling off the coast?Because even with very few accidents, when those accidents are huge and ruin a region for decades, we need to be sure that safety comes first. We don't want more rig workers to blow up, you know?

Also, the boot on the neck analogy needs to die. It's been done to death. Why did Obama place a moratorium on oil drilling off the coast?
Because with all things Obama this is just another political dog and pony show that he will use to advance his socialist agenda.
To make sure the oil prices go way up. Obama is hoping for $10 a gallon gasoline. That would make the economy come to a grinding halt. Why did Obama place a moratorium on oil drilling off the coast?
Obama is a progressive idiot. That basically sums up everything he has done thus far.
Because Obama is the biggest idiot alive. He rather people be out of work
