How can Obama's Tresury nomination be responsible to run the treasury when he can't even pay his taxes?

Obama's treasury nomination wasn't responsible to pay his taxes. He sat on a IRS letter for 2+ years. If he can't comply with the law, why should he be allowed to run the Treasury, which the IRS is under?

If this was a Republican nomination, he would have been disqualified as soon as this was found out. But he is a democrat, democrats are allowed to make mistakes as long as he apologizes and pays his fines. Is this the way things run in Washington? How can Obama's Tresury nomination be responsible to run the treasury when he can't even pay his taxes?Shhhhh!!! Don't you know that the rules liberals place on the rest of us doesnt apply to them?! You see, liberals are elitests who exempt themselves from the oppressive rules they impose on the general population.

Its why liberals typically chooses a career which produces nothing of value 鈥?journalist, lawyer, bureaucrat, "activist", etc. - and uses government to extract the wealth of others. How can Obama's Tresury nomination be responsible to run the treasury when he can't even pay his taxes?
The standards of approving appointees by the president are generally pretty low, so nobody thinks this is going to derail it. The Aschroft was approved when Bush was elected. This taxes thing is definitely embarrassing, as John Kerry admitted today. It's not an uncommon error when working for a foreign entity that doesn't withhold US taxes, especially the IMF for some reason, but not one someone in Geitner's position should be making. He corrected the mistake as soon as it was brought to his attention, which is the way it is typically handled. Still, he's shown enough competence to overcome it and earn a shot. These are crucial times for the treasury secretary and he knows the job better than anyone who could be appointed. He will get the position and hopefully do a great job, but only time will tell about that one.How can Obama's Tresury nomination be responsible to run the treasury when he can't even pay his taxes?he needs to recuse himself from the nomination process.

Simply stated, he purposely cheated on his taxes, and he's been caught.

This is not a Republican/Democratic thing, BUT if Democrats continuee to support him in the rule (Including Obama), then it does become a question of Democrats and ethics.
Hey you must realize by now only us common folks must pay our taxes. If this were a Republican he would have not made it in the front door. Charlie Rangel has been holding out on the IRS for years, no problem but you miss an estimated payment and the s--- hits the fanHow can Obama's Tresury nomination be responsible to run the treasury when he can't even pay his taxes?I know. Isn't it amazing, and as usual, the Lib media will shrug their shoulders and give the guy a pass. I have a feeling this may turn out to be the most corrupt administration in decades... if not ever. Chicago mob politics has moved to Washington. How can Obama's Tresury nomination be responsible to run the treasury when he can't even pay his taxes?
He will use our money to pay them! you are so right about if it had been a Republican there would have been hell raised. Obama is just a corruption magnet isn't he !
Oh but it was just an oversight....

Ya I am going to oversight not paying my taxes for a few years and lets see what happens. How can Obama's Tresury nomination be responsible to run the treasury when he can't even pay his taxes?
He's a dem. He'll get a pass.
The same may your boss may be an idiot but some how you keep getting paid. Hmmmm

Mr. News
gives us an excuse not to pay our taxes!
it don't matter what we think. The Obama lovers will find any excuse for Obama's people.
Is this the way things are run in Washington? I suppose we could ask Mr. Schlozman, the former Bush DOJ Civil Rights Division supervisor for some guidance in respect to the nominating process. Should we do that?

Geitner paid his taxes after wrangling with the IRS for more than two years. Personally, I suspect he probably got some lousy legal or accounting advice. Maybe he even got hard-headed about paying the taxes because he wrongly, but honestly, believed he was not responsible for that tax liability. I'm not sure, however, how that reflects on his ability to run the Treasury Department.

You do realize that the greatest national security threat facing the United States of America is the threat of a contracting economy. Right? America's hard military power and soft diplomatic power are functions of America's economic power. National security, therefore, is a function of American economic power.

If you and other Republicans want to try to knock down Geitner's nomination because he displayed arguably poor judgment by not promptly paying a personal income tax liability, that is your prerogative. Denying him confirmation on that basis will not help the American economy and, in fact, it will do substantial harm if he is the best qualified candidate for the job.

But since your concern, as ever, is playing partisan politics, I suspect you aren't concerned with that possibility. In fact, I suspect you would welcome further economic declines if it would serve your pathetic political agenda. Democrats, on the other hand, haven't got that luxury since they have to solve the Citigroup problem, pass a responsible stimulus package, find the money to pay for it all while under pressure to enact middle class tax relief, make decisions relating to prosecuting an expensive and important war in Afghanistan while slowly disentangling from Iraq, and figuring out whether there is a way to keep a lid on the Israeli-Hamas and Israeli-Hezbollah conflicts and move towards peace and, if so, how to accomplish it, all while federal tax revenues are rapidly declining.

So you go off and play while the grown ups, including Tim Geitner, try to sweep up the mess you left behind and rebuild for the future. Okay? Look there's a swing open. If you run fast you can get there before the other two year olds. Just tie your shoe laces first.
Same old republican crap...
