The Bureau of Labor Statistics today released July data on unemployment by metropolitan area, not seasonally adjusted. Of the 372 areas included, 19 recorded jobless rates of at least 15 percent. Eight of these were in California, and five were in Michigan.



The unemployment rate was highest in El Centro, Calif., at 30.2 percent, followed by Yuma, Ariz., at 26.2 percent. Both areas are close to the Mexican border, are highly agricultural and have “extreme weather during summer months,” the bureau explains.



Jobless rates were lowest in Bismarck, N.D., at 3.1 percent, followed by Fargo, N.D.-Minn., and Rapid City, S.D., each at 4.2 percent.

The DOW is still thousands lower than it was, unemployment is still over 9%,(and would be higher if people had not had their unemployment expire) housing starts are up, but barely, (real estate on a whole is still way down) and in your world the recession has ended.
